Can I still get a student loan if my program doesn’t take fasfa?? And I only need about $5000 for the entire tuition. Which best option should I go to get one specially if I have no co-signer and low credit?? Thank you!

Please don't make the Quickbooks mistake. Search "Quickbooks complaints" and you will find thousands of unsatisfied customers. Before 2000 Intuit/Quickbooks was a pretty decent company. That is no longer the case. Their idea of "customer service" is convincing you that your problem can be solved by buying the next more expensive version. There "desktop" version had a very unstable, non-standard database which often caused problems but made them rich. Their "cloud" version shares the problems with other "cloud base accounting" and adds some more problems too. Search "Quickbooks complaints" and you will see thousands of unsatisfied customers. Do your OWN research...don't take my word for it. Personally I use an old version of "Peachtree" accounting on an OFFLINE computer so I never have to worry about operating system "updates" which often "break" accounting systems. You don't want to play games with your accounting program. I have never had a problem with accounting on an OFFLINE computer.

Johan Zavala Free full ride even for internationals.. Try to live in Kalamazoo city, Michigan. In that city all high school kids can go to any public or private college or research university, 100% Free. It was even featured in Wall Street journal a few weeks ago ...all covered. It’s called the Kalamazoo promise A recent "Wall Street Journal" article A city discovered a fix right here in the USA--Kalamazoo city Michigan is the first to provide a free college education in America for all its residents. If you want to go to a private university they still cover up to 100%. You can even go to University of Michigan or Western Michigan University (public universities). Possible to have it all covered. Even former president Obama mentioned it in his speeches. Many states are trying to replicate..It is called “Kalamazoo Promise” program and even foreigners may qualify. This is not to any surprise since Kalamazoo city was the first in the nation to provide a free education for all residents from K-12 long before other cities and state made it common. No wonder so many famous inventors and individuals come out of this little innovative community.

Of course you can pay extra towards your loan, but if you're going to go for PSLF, it doesn't make sense to pay more because that will reduce your loan forgiveness in the end.

I'm 25 years old and just going to start college in the fall. I've worked since I was 18 and had many bills and paid them all on time and even managed to finance things. Somehow I have no credit history at all and my family's credit isn't the best maybe low 600's. So a cosigner probably wouldn't work. How would I go about getting a student loan? And the private one's I've saw without a cosigner only offer up to $5,000 I believe. The tuition alone at the community college here is double that since I'm an out of state student. And I guess I wouldn't be able to get a student loan anyway since without a degree where I live you can only get retail jobs and at most I made $18,000 a year working full time.

    • The College Investor
The College Investor 26 ngày trước

First, go with Federal loans. You get these by filling out the FAFSA, and contacting your school's financial aid office. Federal loans will cover at least $9,500 without a cosigner. Beyond that, yes, you'll likely need a cosigner. Read this first:

As a financial advisor myself, I agree wholeheartedly ALL costs, fees, expenses, charges... however you want to label them, should be disclosed AND explained until the investor understands. Not just a nod with glazed-over eyes. Like the advice of Warren Buffet and Dave Ramsey, you should never invest in something you don’t understand, I’ll take it a step further and add or how much it costs (not just the price). I completely disagree on the advice Miss Stephanie gives on how to pick an investment. While expense ratios, loads, fees, and commissions should be part of the decision making process, it’s just a part of the decision. When you’re on the hunt for something you need, when is it good advice to only focus on getting the cheapest product out there? I would never invest or make a recommendation based solely on the costs. A cheap, piece of garbage investment is still a piece of garbage! How can you say pick the one with the smaller cost and have any confidence it will produce enough growth and income to carry a person through retirement!?! That’s a risk I’m not willing to take nor would that reason protect me from being sued for not doing what’s in the best interest of the client under fiduciary rules, or even under suitability standards! Every investor is different; with different needs, starting at different places, with different goals, AND different emotional responses to what our profession does, so if you don’t know your client and you are giving advice. Your only hurting those who are asking for your help! The video would have been great had you stuck to the top and stayed away from advice. Also, it doesn’t matter what opinion you have of mutual funds. The only thing that should matter and be the focus for every advisor in every industry should be the client and figuring out the best way to meet the goals or satisfy their needs.

Incorporate some financial strategies in combination with an income driven repayment plan. For example, if you increase pre-tax retirement contributions into an employer sponsored plan or a private retirement plan you’ll lower your adjusted gross income which in turn will lower your monthly student loan payments allowing you to pay more to yourself and less towards the loans. I do this kind of planning with my clients who qualify for the PSLF program.

    • The College Investor
      The College Investor Tháng trước

Not really, you might not be "getting a deal" but you're sure going to be paying a lot less over the life of the loan. The reason banks negotiate is because at that point, the loan balance has grown so much due to interest and fees - the banks are making huge profits! So, they take payments for years, payments stop, they sue the borrower, get garnishments, etc... then at some point they "offer a discount" of 50% of the balance - meanwhile they've profited all along. So, you're really in a good spot!

    • Movie Gal
      Movie Gal Tháng trước

@The College Investor Thank you! It's for a private loan. So, people that pay their bills gets no deals.

    • The College Investor
      The College Investor Tháng trước

Gotcha. If it's a Federal loan, you can't. The Federal government has clearly defined what's allowed, and negotiating isn't allow unless you default. And at that point, all that's negotiable is accrued interest and collection costs. The reason is that you technically owe the debt to the U.S. taxpayer and as such, it's not a negotiable debt. If it's a private loan, it is more negotiable, but a lender doesn't have an incentive to negotiate unless they view the full amount as non-collectible - which is rare. You can always call and ask, but I've never seen a negotiated settlement for a current private loan. Only seen it occur to defaulted loans.

Most lenders require a new application every year (or each time you need a loan), but some do one application for your entire time at school as long as you don't change schools. Each lender has different requirements, but income verification of you and/or your cosigner is common.

I tried YNAB briefly for the 34-day trial period. It has a very steep learning curve and when it did not work properly for me and did not meet my expectations of how a budgeting platform should operate, I was immediately jumped on, hounded, and insulted by YNAB's fanatical fanbase. I will never in a million years touch that software again! Mint, on the other hand, is nice enough, but it really doesn't provide much more information than Bank of America's website "My Portfolio" functionality. Mint doesn't even link to as many sites as BoA's does. I guess it's okay for getting an overall view of your money, if you don't have a BoA account.

We were actually looking into this when my wife's student loan forgiveness program turned out to be just an annual headache to determine a payment (with my income factored in) that would have resulted in an early pay off. Thank you for bringing up the divorce aspect. I think we'll probably look into the individual consolidation at this point, but would a joint account holder be held responsible for the entire debt in the event of a death of the other joint account holder? Thanks again.

I received two different refund amounts on freetaxusa and TurboTax, what does that mean?

What numbers are you changing? You should simply be entering the data from your forms.

    • The Real Black Barbie
The Real Black Barbie 3 tháng trước

The College Investor No, I entered the exact same numbers on both websites. I doubled and triple checked. I had to change my numbers on Freetaxusa to get it to match TurboTax refund amount.

It means that you entered something differently on each platform. The math of your taxes is always the same, but different user interfaces make finding/missing different tax inputs a challenge.

I used turbo tax I got scammed by turbo and IRS missing 4400.00 from federal only got back 17.00 received full amount from state. I have no off set .

If your tax refund on your return doesn't match what the IRS sent you, the IRS will mail you a letter explaining the difference and give you options to appeal it if you believe it's incorrect.

Turbo tax is not friendly and not for free like they say it is, it's a complete rip off!

so just to clarify, the income is based on adjusted gross income and not gross income? Just making sure. I made a little over 90k but put away 15k in retirement, so I'm technically under 80k... Right?

Yes, it's based on AGI. So, contributing to a 401k and HSA can also lower your loan payments!

I know you say the math never changes just the price but I did both Turbo Tax andH&R Block just to see the difference and the amount of money was huge!! Turbo Tax had me paying in on both the Fed and State and H&R block was different not paying back on both. No, they are not the same and I put in exactly the same information. And if you go to there office they charge a huge amount of money.

    • The College Investor
The College Investor 3 tháng trước

The math doesn't change - but the ease of use to find and enter all of your information correctly does make a difference. If you don't know you're supposed to enter something, or you didn't know about certain tax credits or deductions, you can see big swings.

I don't trust Turbo Tax because I put in my Bank interest and when I went to look at the preview it had it doubled. I went back and deleted it and put the information back in it still doubled it. So I think I will be looking for something else. Thanks so much for this video.

Is it worth it to Upgrade? I have never used this site before.

It's not about "is it worth it". It's about does your tax return require it. You pay based on what forms you need to file.

Here is my big problem with it. I wanted to direct deposit my refund in my bank account so I put in my routing number and my account number and finished up and it came back that the IRS turned it down because it couldn't find my router number so I went back and entered it again. It came back again refused so I went back and fixed it again. The same thing came back again and again . I don't know how many times I tried this. I checked the number again to see if it was right and it still came back refused and wrong again. I really was fed up by know and a notice came up to use an alternative. I could use a direct deposit in a American Express debit card or just have it mailed . I didn't want to have it mailed because of so many nightmares of lost mail. So I decided to look into the American Express debit card, I really didn't want so to see what they were offering. They wanted me to log in using my email and a password, so I did. That is where I went wrong, Doing this made me an account holder with American Express. I didn't really want. I tried too cancel the account and the phone number they give gives you a computerized reply. So I couldn't cancel the account but I didn't finish registering but I don't think that I will make any difference because they sent me a debit card anyway.

Can the IRS take my whole refund if I owe less than the amount of my refund for student loans?

    • The College Investor
The College Investor 3 tháng trước

They will only take what's needed. But remember, you have your loan balance, but then you have collection fees on top of that - which can be 12% or more. Rarely does your tax offset go to your actual loan balance after covering the fees and interest.

So, which is more cost effective, purchasing Vanguard funds through Fidelity or directly from Vanguard?? My 401k is with Fidelity, but I was thinking about opening a Roth IRA through Vanguard.

    • The College Investor
The College Investor 3 tháng trước

They both have the same funds, but you'll pay a commission to purchase the funds at Fidelity. You won't at Vanguard. The real question is, are you set on Vanguard? Fidelity offers very similar funds with better expense ratios and no commissions.

@The College Investor I have been using H&R every year and they did not have it, I also logged in this year and didn't see anything about it. Do they have cryptocurrency support this year similar to TurboTax? If that's the case, I will give them a try again.
