How to Install a COMPLETELY New Front Suspension in your Car or Truck

Chia sẻ
  • Xuất bản 21 Th04, 2019
  • Learn how to replace the ENTIRE front suspension of your car in this two episode series. Here I will show you how to install a brand new wheel bearing, ball joints, control arms, tie rod, strut, and axle.
The ball joint and wheel bearing has to be pressed into the knuckle and I have a bunch of tips and tricks to make that easy. I show how to properly install a tie rod (safely) and get an accurate measurement so you can get the car aligned. I also show you how to properly torque down bolts with bushings so you don't tear them. The rest of the suspension parts are pretty simple to install and then we go for a ride to see how much better the car handles!

Great video, not sure if you have seen the rotors that have the rust protection coating on them. Didn't realize they had them until I did the breaks on my enclave and thought it would interest you, they give it a nice look and you don't have to clean them before you install them. So far I have seen a black and silver version.

Thanks for the easy to follow along with video! I appreciate you man. I subscribed and clicked notifications don't wanna miss a video. I recently bought a 2009 tacoma sport short bed. And now I'm going to save up and replace my entire suspension like you did. But, I'm thinking new shocks and spacers on the front struts and an add a leaf with new shackles that I can gain an inch or 2 back there as well. You have a vid showing that?

I have a 1995 Buick century. I've had it for almost 7 years. It's my first car and I love it to death. However it's nearly a 1/4 century old, and is starting to wear out. I'm hoping to get a new car for my daily soon, then my old girl is getting parked and I'm going to start trying to put all my chrisfix knowledge to the test. I've only ever changed my own oil once (thanks to inspiration from you) last month and am really looking forward to doing some other work myself. Thanks for the amazing videos.

Probably wont see this but I just got the full front suspension kit for my '04 Grand Am GT with 180K miles on it (and I have not been gentle on the ol' girl). Both outer tie rods are shot along with the passenger CV axle but as long as im going under there and breaking it down to that point might as well replace everything on both sides just like you did because the car feels really wobbly when turning and pulls to the passenger side when accelerating. This video gave me the knowledge and courage to do it myself at home, thanks a million brother!

Excellent and clear explanation of how to replace components. Just a suggestion with regard to brake can use Methylated Spirits instead. Cheaper to buy and can be simply decanted into an empty household spray bottle. It evaporates and no need to purchase an aerosol can of brake cleaner.
Same for penetrating fluid........your favourite mix, (ATF & Acetone; or Paraffin; or Red Diesel) etc......again easy to mix in an empty household spray bottle no expensive cans of aerosols required.
Red Diesel, (here in the UK at least), is that which is not taxed for road use.....sometimes called Agricultural or Construction use diesel.
I use it in a spray bottle and, if required, from an old empty fruit or vegetable can if I need to use a brush to work it into a restricted space or difficult to remove component.
Red Diesel does smell a lot if you spill it on items of clothing or overalls you will obviously need to wash these items.
A gallon of Red Diesel will probably last you for cost effective.
Thanks once again for the footage.....

    • jinxtacy
      jinxtacy 20 ngày trước

It's going to vary car to car, as well as the manufacturer of the parts. People like Raysbesto's have various grades as well. Economy, Professional, and something in the middle. Also, the springs and shocks/struts that you choose will have a huge influence on cost. Personally, unless other people have reported good experiences with another shock maker on their car I tend to go Bilstein or Koni (tends to up the price a lot). Other decent option is Showa. If other people say they've had success with them on that particular model I'd consider Tokico, KYB, or Monroe. (Ranco, Fox, etc for trucks) I haven't had good luck with them, but others seem happy with them.
